Here are a few photos of my 1959 Mercedes-Benz Type W180 220S Ponton sedan. I bought it in Hobe Sound, Florida in 1990. I have restored it twice since then; once in Atlanta, Georgia in 1994, and again in Dubai, UAE in 2004. Prior to that, the Ponton was parked for nine years in Florida. I was told that it was first owned by Netherland's Ambassador to the USA. The car is complete, and drives like a dream. Everywhere I drove this car in Dubai, I was chased by locals who wanted to buy it. I was stopped by police on two separate occasions only so they could look at, and enjoy this beautiful piece of art.
By the way, I was one year old when my father bought a 1960 Type 180b in Lebanon. The black and white photo was taken in 1977 right before I went to the USA to go to school. My younger son was seven years old when we bought the 220S. We have always been in love with the Ponton series. He currently lives and works in California. Four months ago, his mother and I visited him in California, and bought him a 1960 190Db.
This photo of me (aged 17 years) was taken in 1977. This is the 1960 Mercedes-Benz Type 180b that my father bought when I was one year old!
